OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY
Provides oversight and supervision to M-DCPS’s Payroll department. This position’s supervisory role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely execution of M-DCPS’s day-to-day payroll operations and processes.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
1. Implements and administers payroll provisions of the various collective bargaining units and school board policies.
2. Works closely and serves as a liaison with Human Capital Management, Risk Benefits Management, ITS, School Board Attorney’s Office, employees, and outside agencies to resolve issues regarding health benefits, life insurance claims, tax sheltered annuities, union dues, alimony, child support, student loans, IRS levies, and other payroll deductions.
3. Responds to periodic payroll surveys conducted by M-DCPS; analyzes and interprets payroll data and prepares reports.
4. Assists in retrieval of data from SAP for various research purposes as needed.
5. Assists in the development/maintenance of various payroll processes.
6. Directs, reviews, coordinates, and supervises the work of clerical staff involved in the manual and electronic input, validation, production, reconciliation, imaging and maintenance of official payroll files and other records.
7. Responsible for researching and preparing responses for audit and investigative related issues for deductions, garnishments, and travel reimbursements.
8. Performs other duties related to general administrative responsibilities of the position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This work requires the following physical activities: sitting, mobility, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity. The work is performed primarily indoors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor's degree in Business Administration/Management, Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, Human Resources, or related field.
2. Minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience in payroll, finance and/or accounting.
3. Knowledge and experience of computer software, programs, technology pertinent to the area of specification.
4. Knowledge and experience with SAP payroll processing.
5. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.
