BASIC OBJECTIVES

 

The Teacher/Curriculum Development provides the following services: planning, implementing, and providing training; developing support materials; and coordinating the Airframe Technician, Powerplant Technician, Electronic Technology, and Avionic programs. Among the responsibilities are reviewing research and evaluation of instructional materials as required by the Federal Aviation Administration, assisting in developing and implementing School Technology Plans, coordinating industry advisory committees, and assisting with planning and developing off-site locations.

 

JOB TASKS/RESPONSIBILITIES

 

1. Assists with coordinating day and evening instructional and non-instructional personnel in the Airframe Technician, Powerplant Technician and Electronic Technology, and Avionic programs.

2. Works cooperatively with the staff of the technical education center and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to assure unified programs within the center.

3. Provides assistance with planning the annual subject schedules for day and evening aviation and electronic classes; assigns, supervises, and evaluates the instructors of these classes, and gives assistance as needed.

4. Assists in interviewing persons interested in teaching positions in the aviation and electronic technology departments and recommends these to the principal for employment, assigns teachers to positions, and conducts orientation of new
personnel.

5. Plans, prepares, and updates departmental and FAA curriculum materials cooperatively with other teachers.

6. Works closely with the district staff in implementing inservice training and providing input when requested.

7. Serves as a liaison between the school and agencies/industries in developing and implementing specialized industry training or partnerships for apprenticeship training and initiates required agreements for such programs.

8. Works actively with the Aviation and Electronic Technology Advisory Craft Committees.

9. Coordinates the purchasing of supplies and equipment for the departments, drafts an annual proposed budget, plans and maintains assigned classrooms and equipment at the center, and maintains the inventory of equipment and supplies.

10. Assists with aviation program management and operation, and FAA licensing.

11. Prepares proposals related to programs for the State Funding Guide and implementing projects as funded.

12. Assists teachers and students in solving problems related to the program, and may make recommendations concerning staff utilization, student assignments, equipment allocation, etc.

13. Performs other duties as assigned by the principal.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

This is light work which requires the following physical activities: climbing, bending, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting, reaching, sitting, standing, walking, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity. The worker is exposed to atmospheric conditions and the work is performed primarily indoors.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 

1. Bachelor’s degree or Rank II equivalent with certification in vocational education, or a Bachelor’s degree with six (6) years of related experience in aviation or electronics.

2. Valid Florida teaching certificate preferred.

3. Minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience in the appropriate program and area of certification preferred.

4. Acceptable evaluations for the past three (3) years.

5. Familiarity with major trends and requirements in aviation and electronic industries.

6. Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with others.

7. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

Starting Salary: $53,053.00*

*(includes 6% Referendum Retirement Accruing Supplement of $3,003)
