The Application deadline is Thursday, November 6, 2025 by 11:59 PM (EST). This is a DCSAA pay grade 44 position. OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY
Provides for all technology including selection, installation, maintenance, billing, and training in the solution of Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ (M-DCPS) data and telecommunication systems problems and needs. Interfaces with administrators and other personnel at all levels throughout the M-DCPS system to summarize problem characteristics and define communication requirements. Describes procedural and operating improvements, defines telecommunications support, provides technical and administrative direction in the implementation of new systems and maintenance of existing systems. Works and meets with citizen’s groups, Board members, administrators from other school systems, data processing experts from other organizations, and suppliers of technical and procedural materials to ensure the best environment to support the education of M-DCPS students.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
1. Monitors, analyzes, and assists in reducing data and telecommunications expenses. Assures proper billing for leased equipment and maintenance. Reviews locations and makes recommendations.
2. Coordinates data and telephone equipment selection and installation activities to achieve the best overall service and price.
3. Coordinates and controls data and telephone equipment installation moves and changes.
4. Coordinates the relationship between M-DCPS data and local telephone service provider and other vendors.
5. Conducts regularly scheduled service meetings with vendors to ensure a forum is available for problem resolutions.
6. Assures effective use of maintenance contracts and preventive maintenance to reduce both costs and downtime.
7. Handles user training and coordination so that system capabilities translate into actual benefits achieved.
8. Analyzes communications problems and administrative solutions.
9. Analyzes long distance traffic for potential savings, using WATS lines, MCI, SPRINT, etc.
10. Maintains a liaison with the Florida Public Service Commission to ensure that correct rate information is available and utilized in communications.
11. Reviews technical publications and researches new techniques and technologies for providing improved, efficient, communications technology and developing long range telecommunications plans.
12. Prepares material for management presentations and presents systems recommendations to Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology System (ITS), Advisory Committees and user departments’ management.
13. Reports project/systems status and personnel activity to management.
14. Performs other duties related to general administrative responsibilities of the position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This work requires the following physical activities: sitting, mobility, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity. The work is performed primarily indoors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
2. Minimum of seven (7) years work experience in the communications industry.
3. Experience in local area networks, telephone management reporting, and minimum cost routing.
4. Knowledge of data processing and its interface with communications.
5. Knowledge of traffic studies and various reports they provide.
6. Ability to read customer service records, provided by the telephone company and identify the associated equipment.
7. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.
